A LANDLORD, a cabbie and a car saleswoman in Lianyungang City in neighboring Jiangsu Province, could share the 200,000 yuan (US$25,906) in rewards for providing information that led to the arrest of a bank guard accused of committing one of China's biggest cash thefts, Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported today.

The landlord will get 100,000 yuan, the car saleswoman 60,000 yuan and the cabbie 40,000 yuan, the Jiangsu Province Public Security Bureau has announced.

Two bank vault guards, both Hebei natives, were believed to have stolen 51 million yuan (US$6.6 million) at the Handan branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Hebei Province. Their last activity on April 14 was recorded by the bank's monitoring camera.

One of the tipsters, the landlord who rented a garage to the suspect Ren Xiaofeng, reported to local police on April 18 that the new tenant resembled Ren.

The cabbie alerted local police saying that a passenger resembled Ren and provided details on the time and place of Ren's getting into and out of the cab.

The car saleswoman, from whom Ren bought a car with 200,000 yuan cash, also tipped off the local police who were on his trail. The police caught Ren in Liangyungang on April 19.

The two men were on on the nation's most-wanted list and rewards had been posted earlier for information leading to the arrest of either suspect.
