Master sergeant Nguyen Viet Anh claimed he saw the four-seat KIA Morning taxi trying to pass the red right and signalled for its driver to stop so that he could examine his driving licence.

However, Anh claimed the taxi driver turned a blind eye to his signal, revved up and drove straight at him.

A photographer from www.otofun.com who was at the scene took the remarkable photo of the taxi hitting Anh in the groin and thrusting him forward onto the bonnet.

Anh claimed he was determined to prevent other vehicles on the road from being hit by the taxi driver's desperate escape.

"At that time I only thought of the safety of road users," Anh said.

Witnessing Anh's brazenness, many pedestrians and road users at the scene were allegedly so angry at the taxi speeding up that they ran along side the taxi trying to make it stop.

Anh claimed the taxi driver had only stopped after travelling with him on the bonnet for about 40 metres. The taxi driver, 31-year-old Pham Huu Kien had recently started working for the Phu Hung Taxi Company.

On Wednesday, Dong Da District's Police decided to prosecute Kien with resisting police.

Kien acknowledged his offence, saying he was so afraid of the policeman that he revved up the car without thinking.

Hanoi Police's Traffic Police Department head Dao Cong Hai said he had sent a document to request Hanoi Police award Anh for his bravery.
