OMUTA, Fukuoka — Three people died after a taxi they were riding in crashed into a signal post here early Wednesday morning, police said.

At about 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a taxi driven by Norio Yoshida, 61, crashed into a pole supporting traffic lights at an intersection along a prefectural road in the Jokanmachi district of Omuta, local police said.

Yoshida and his two passengers — two girls aged 16 and 17 — died in the accident.

Local police are investigating the cause of the accident. (Mainichi)
