So important that CVLB considers it an offence if cabbies do not inform the board on their latest personal details.

A spokesman for the board’s enforcement department said the information provided to them is, at the end of the day, for the benefit of cabbies themselves.

“It makes it easier for us to facilitate any changes or transfers of documents involving cabbies. If they fail to inform us of any changes, it will also be difficult for us to track them or inform them of latest news and developments.

“And the fact is, it is so easy for cabbies to update their details. It is as simple as filling up a form,” said the spokesman.

He added that cabbies who do not notify the board will first be served with a warning, followed by a maximum of RM300 fine. This will then lead to the suspension of the vehicle’s licence.

The spokesman said so far this year, 5,331 cabbies were found to have committed various offences such as overcharging, refusing to pick up passengers, failing to use the meter and showing poor attitude.

He said of the lot, 2,160 have failed to come forward to the board with an explanation, despite being served with notices.

“These cabbies are still on the road. However, when it is time for them to renew their licences, we will instantly blacklist them,” he said.

One of them is the cabbie who had allegedly terrorised a woman and her three children in Puchong Perdana on May 30.

The board had issued him a notice letter followed by a show cause letter, asking him to explain, but he has yet to turn up at the board.

The cabbie was believed to have changed his address without informing the CVLB. The letters were delivered to the cabbie’s last known address in Hulu Klang.
